Jerusalem Communities Network was founded by Hilia Tsedaka in May 2007. Soon after, it has received an honorary mention at the MIT competition JUST JERUSALEM, for its creative developmental program (Mosaic). JCN then collaborated with the non-profit organization Education for Life, promoting respectful communication and well-being throughout the Holy Land to expand its work.

Since May 2007 The Jerusalem Communities Network and has recruited a diverse Jewish / Arab, and religious / secular staff of Jerusalem trainers and volunteers, experienced in multicultural-work and reconciliation-techniques.

As founder, Hilia, a facilitator of Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication technique, and Council Listening Circles, has been adapting international communication methods into the unique multicultural setting and tensions existing in Jerusalem and the Holy Land, and has been witnessing transformations occurring to those undertaking her courses.

Previous to JCN, Hilia has set up various multicultural events such as the Jewish and Bedouin Women’s Tent in the Negev, collaborating with the Beer- Sheva Municipality (The Division of Woman’s Rights), The Center for Woman’s Rights of Laqia, the Hura Community Center and Bustan La-Shalom (2006). An earlier multicultural event which Hilia coordinated was the student-year opening event at the David Yellin College of Jerusalem (2004)- an event subsidized by the student social organization Ruach Hadasha.

Hilia is an ardent believer in in-depth education for tolerance and respect. She incorporates a widespread understanding of the social-educational-economic factors impeding upon the creation of a flourishing, respectful Jerusalem, and she is all for cooperation and co-creation.

The Jerusalem Communities Network is working under the umbrella of Education For Life, a non-profit organization promoting Nonviolent Communication and Respectful Communication within the educational system and across different sectors of the Israeli society. Education for Life was founded by Mr. Daniel Kropf, an Italian business entrepreneur in 1999 with the goal of improving people’s quality of living through workshops and trainings. Education for Life is currently directed by Mr. Ofer Alyagor, a developer of many of our methodologies and practices.

AWARDS:

The Jerusalem Mosaic was the only Israeli initiative to win an honorary mention from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) at the ‘Just Jerusalem‘ competition. The contest sought after creative solutions for the development of a just Jerusalem. We see this award and the growing public interest. as giving further opportunities advancing good relations and reconciliation between communities.

THE GENERAL PUBLIC IS IMPORTANT:

We believe in working with all of Jerusalem’s residents

Cross-Community Committees

The initiative has successfully established the first inter-community committee comprised of community leaders (teachers, religious leaders, initiators, etc.) from different neighborhoods and cultural backgrounds in Jerusalem.

The goal of the committee is to share input upon the up-to date needs of Jerusalemites in order for Jerusalem Mosaic to plan and find creative solutions and to address their needs. Another objective of the committee is to empower people from within the communities to take an active role in addressing the needs of Jerusalem as a whole. At the end of each year we will create a new such committee from the year’s participants and follow-up on their involvement and new initiatives. By this we are enlarging the circles of citizen involvement in the shared society.

We would love to read your suggestions
