Our Mission
In order to lessen tensions between the diverse sectors of the society (Muslim/Jewish/Christian, orthodox/secular, new/old immigrants) and to lay the grounds for a safer economically thriving Jerusalem – W-W-J integrates insights from two fields: Conflict Transformation and M. Rosenberg’s Nonviolent Communication.
Win-Win Jerusalem works to:
- Develop Non-Violent Community Leaders from diverse sectors of society
- Set-up Collaborative Neighbourhood-Development Projects answering the needs of the various communities for the benefit of Jerusalem as a whole
- Offer Economic opportunities by utilizing Jerusalem’s culture & tourist advantages
- Building the belief in nonviolence as an effective tool for reaching security
Why Non-Violent Training for youth and adults?
Win-Win Jerusalem works to train community leaders from the Jewish, Muslim, Christian and new-immigrant populations with the skills of conflict resolution and inclusive leadership. We educate youth and adults to be creative in finding nonviolent, win-win solutions for Jerusalem’s tensions. By offering leaders non-violent tools, we empower communities to take an active role in improving their lives through democratic routes. Jerusalem has witnessed ongoing violent patterns of solving neighborhood dilemmas (such as housing, state & religion, etc.). At the moment, Jerusalem is lacking non-violent community leadership which would offer alternative solutions benefiting all sectors. Jerusalem Communities Network’s trained leaders become social-agents of collaborative community development, inspiring changes within their societies.
Why Inter-Community Committees?
Communities involved are working towards finding long-term Win-Win Solutions for Neighbourhood Dilemmas, promoting sustainable dynamic changes. W-W-J has established its first Inter-Community Committee of some 30 persons educators, social workers, religious figures and more. The committe has divided into task forces on the subjects of education, toursim and leadership.
Why Combine Cultural Activities and Tourism?
The participation of minority-groups in Jerusalem’s fair-trade and social networks will build trust and promote dynamic ties for shared benefits. Tourists from around the world will be fascinated with coming to Jerusalem to witness the Jerusalem Multicultural Fair, to meet first hand the diverse Christian, Muslim and Jewish communities currently residing in Jerusalem and to purchase their unique crafts, thus raising city income. Addressing conflicts through cultural activities is another non-violent practice which works on a widespread level. Folklore festivals become a venue for reviving one’s own folklore and raising city spirit. Communities will take pride in being “on Jerusalem’s cultural map”.
How Can Win-Win Jerusalem Support Governmental Needs?
As a grassroots NGO we reach sectors unreachable by government complementing governmental work, offering sustainable solutions. We believe in working with local institutions which can give us up to date input on their current needs.
The project in its previous name “Mosaic Project” was the only Israeli initiative to win an honorary mention from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology- MIT at the ‘Just Jerusalem’ competition, seeking innovative solutions for the development of Jerusalem. We consider the rising public interest as supporting further opportunities for receiving grants and for implementation of this unique growing initiative.
Win-Win Jerusalem is working with ‘Spirit of the Desert’ Jewish Community in Arizona (501(c)3), Lev Ha’ir Community Council in Jerusalem, and the Domari Society of Gypsies in East Jerusalem. Initiated in 2007, JCN has recruited diverse Jewish/Arab, religious/secular staff members and volunteers.
How Can You Support?
Win-Win Jerusalem is seeking grants to fund or partially fund a 7 month Leadership Training for 28 youth and 56 adults from 4 communities in Jerusalem.
You can also host a JCN event
